WHEN TO REPLACE A VEHICLE WRAP

Vehicle Wrap Discolored and Cracking

The Lifespan of a Vehicle Wrap

While vehicle wrap warranties are generally two to three years, most experts say a wrap can last five to ten years.

The lifespan of a vehicle wrap varies depending on many factors:

  • Poor workmanship on the original installation
  • Improper cleaning
  • Harsh sun
  • Stains from spills not cleaned up
  • Vehicle-on-vehicle incidents
  • Vandalism

When the above occurs, the vinyl wrap can be affected by …

  • Peeling
  • Cracking
  • Ripping
  • Bubbles
  • Stains
  • Discoloration
  • Fading

If some of the above signs are new or small, we may be able to repair your wrap to extend its life. But, typically speaking, as soon as you see any of the above signs, you should replace your vinyl wrap.

Delay Can Make a Bad Situation Worse

Vehicle wraps usually protect your factory or properly-done paint job. However, if a wrap goes bad and stays on too long, the vinyl’s adhesive can adhere to the paint. Then removing the wrap becomes difficult. Jim Laber, owner of IDEA! Printing & Graphics says, “Normally, we can remove the old vinyl in one large piece. But if it’s been on too long, it’s like removing postage stamps one-by-one. Sometimes the paint comes up with the vinyl and we have to repaint the vehicle before putting on new vinyl.”

Tarnishing Your Company Image

Delay can also damage your company image. Your company’s name and message may not be readable. Even if it is, your image is tarnished when marred by fading colors and cracked vinyl.
